    Guideline Letter To Government Tip Sheet

    Dear Sen./Rep. xxxxxx:

    <<Insert your story briefly here. Don't make it too long, or they might not read it.>>

    It should be noted that this is not just a personal problem. Law enforcement authorities report that 100 million dollars a year is reported as stolen from Americans via Nigerian 419 scams, romance scams, and other Nigerian bunko efforts. These authorities further estimate that the figure is much higher because most people are too ashamed to admit that they have been scammed. I know of many other women and men who have literally sent their life savings to these scammers thinking they were Americans working there, on the false hope that these scammers were going to come home to the USA, marry them, and make all their dreams come true.

    As a member of the <<Insert Committee Membership>>> Committee, you must be disturbed at both the negative economic impacts of the illegal transfers of money out of this country to Nigeria and the government’s inability to stop these scammers and get people’s money back. I would appreciate any assistance your office could provide in this matter. Also, if your office or your committees have done anything to deal with this matter, I would appreciate any information your office could provide.
    Sincerely,

    Dear Sen./Rep. xxxxxx:

    I found myself unintentionally in the middle of what I've come to term an "online romance scam." If you'd like to learn about these stories, you can read this investigative report done by Bob Sullivan on MSNBC;
